West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is ‘unlikely’ to join Arsenal

West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is “unlikely” to join Arsenal this summer, according to Alex Crook.

The talkSPORT transfer insider revealed on his Twitter account that he has been told that the Gunners probably won’t be making a move for the 28-year-old goalkeeper.

Arsenal had wanted Aaron Ramsdale, but that deal has now collapsed [Football Insider] and Football.London reporter Chris Davison suggested on his Twitter account that the Gunners should make a move for Johnstone, but that appears as if it won’t happen.

Johnstone to stay?

If what Crook says turns out to be correct, then we can see Johnstone staying at the Hawthorns beyond the end of the summer transfer window.

There has been talk that the Baggies are preparing a new contract offer for Johnstone, and with West Ham deciding not to sign him and now Arsenal also unlikely to sign him, we can see Johnstone signing a new deal.

The new contract that has been discussed would include a release clause should the Baggies fail to win promotion this season [The Athletic].

However, we can’t see West Brom struggling to bounce straight back up with Johnstone in goal.

It seems that the number of clubs keen on signing the England man is reducing, and we think he should now just sign this new contract and commit his future to the Baggies.

In other West Brom news, the club will face competition to sign one of their targets.
