Kevin Phillips predicts West Brom clash v Luton Town

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips predicts West Brom to earn their first win of the new Championship season on Saturday when they welcome Luton Town to The Hawthorns.

Valerien Ismael’s men impressed last week in their 2-2 draw away at Bournemouth while Luton got their season off to a flyer as they smashed newly-promoted Peterborough 3-0 at Kenilworth Road.

However, this match will be a different test for both sides and Phillips is confident the Baggies have enough to earn all three points.

When asked if it’s a good chance for the Albion to get their first win on the board, Phillips told West Brom News: “100 per cent.

“It was a good, solid performance last week. It was a fantastic point and you would take that away at Bournemouth.

“Luton play some good football and they had a fantastic result last week and are full of confidence.

“But I would expect the Baggies to get three points on the board. I predict a 2-1 win for West Brom.”

The Baggies won both matches against Luton last season and haven’t lost to the Hatters in the league since 1996 in the old Division One.

It could still be a tough game for the Albion though but there’s no doubt that if they play as they did against Bournemouth, Ismael should stand a strong chance of getting his first competitive victory in charge of the Black Country outfit.

In other West Brom news, Phillips has reacted to the news that Albion want to sign this attacker to replace Matheus Pereira.
