Sky Sports’ Peter Smith reacts to Conor Townsend error in West Brom v Luton
Conor Townsend was guilty of playing a major role in West Brom failing to keep a clean sheet in their 3-2 win against Luton at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
Luton grabbed the goal in the 70th minute when Harry Cornick scored after Townsend’s defensive lapse.
Sky Sports broadcaster Peter Smith talked through the action at The Hawthorns on Sky Sports News on Saturday [04:34pm].

“It’s scored by Harry Cornick,” said Smith
“It’s a comedy of errors really.
“Conor Townsend, the West Brom left-back, tried to clear the ball, Alan Campbell shut him down and the ball fizzed along the six-yard box into Cornick’s path.
“He blasted it past Sam Johnstone.”

What happened?
West Brom were cruising at 3-0 but they gave themselves something to sweat about at the end of the game.
Due to an injury to Luton’s Jordan Clarke, there was 16 minutes of stoppage time added on and that gave the Hatters a massive opportunity to get something out of the game.
Cornick’s goal started them off because you would imagine that if Albion’s clean sheet still stood at the 90th minute, they wouldn’t have pushed as hard as they did.
Townsend’s lack of concentration was perhaps born out of complacency while Valerien Ismael’s substitutions also killed the match off a bit for the Baggies.
It wasn’t good enough, in the end. However, you cannot moan too much about three points.
We’ll play tougher teams than Luton this season and it’s clear this squad still needs strength in depth.
With the way we play, there are going to be bookings, suspensions, injuries and fatigue plaguing the squad.
Ismael’s squad, as it stands, doesn’t have the depth required to play the way he wants to do in all 46 Championship matches.
