Alan Nixon delivers update on West Brom pursuit of new centre-mid ahead of Romaine Sawyers exit
Alan Nixon suggests there are no imminent midfield incomings at West Brom despite the expected exit of Romaine Sawyers to Stoke City.
Telegraph journalist John Percy reported on Thursday night [19/08/21] that Sawyers will complete his season-long loan switch to Championship rivals Stoke on Friday.
However, after being asked on his personal Twitter profile whether Albion were after a replacement for the 29-year-old, journalist Alan Nixon wrote: “Told there’s no rush, some young lads in the squad are fancied.”
Playing with fire
After a three-game unbeaten start to life back in the Championship, it’s hard to express major concerns over our squad at the moment.
Furthermore, there are only three games left before the end of the transfer window, with one of them a League Cup clash at home to Arsenal.
However, there simply has to be a central midfielder brought in before the end of August 31st.
Alex Mowatt and Jake Livermore have started all three games so far and look fairly assured of their places under Valerien Ismael.

But who are their replacements?
Semi Ajayi replaced Livermore for the latter stages of Wednesday’s 4-0 drubbing of Sheffield United, but he is naturally a centre-back.
Adam Reach signed on a free in the summer and can fill in there but, like Ajayi, he is by no means a natural in that position.
Quevin de Castro could be one to keep an eye on after impressing in pre-season, and he was named on the bench in midweek, but he is yet to make his debut in senior football.
It would be a huge risk to rely on Livermore, Mowatt and the aforementioned trio as backup options.
