Romaine Sawyers set to join Stoke City on loan
Romaine Sawyers is set to leave West Brom and join Stoke City on loan later today (Friday), according to Telegraph journalist John Percy.
Stoke’s interest in the 29-year-old was first reported on August 6 by Pete Smith when Valerien Ismael left him out of the squad.
Sawyers played in only one of West Brom’s last 18 Premier League games and is yet to make a senior appearance this season.
However, it does not seem likely that he’ll feature for the Baggies again this season, as Percy, via his personal Twitter account wrote, “WBA midfielder Romaine Sawyers will sign on a season-long loan tomorrow.”
Had to go
Sawyers had fallen down the pecking order at the club and his exit this summer was a foregone conclusion.
The only deliberation was whether it would be a loan or a permanent sale, and unfortunately for us, it is the former.
It’s clear to anyone who’s seen him play that he does not fit Ismael’s style of play and rather than having a passenger to carry in each game, it’s better that we shipped him off.

Jake Livermore and Alex Mowatt are clearly Ismael’s preferred options and we don’t think Sawyers would’ve been particularly keen to play as a backup to them.
Stoke may be the perfect place for him to get his career back on track as he’s undoubtedly a solid player who has the talent to shine in the Championship.
