Charlie Austin reacts as Romaine Sawyers joins Stoke City on loan
Romaine Sawyers has joined Stoke City on loan for the rest of the season from West Brom, and Charlie Austin has reacted to the move.
The 29-year-old St. Kitts and Nevis international midfielder is not in the plans of Valerien Ismael this season and will now look to prove himself with the Potters.
Sawyers will not be able to play against West Brom, but Austin is backing him to play at his own pace at his new club.
The Queens Park Rangers striker took to his personal Twitter account to react after the announcement: “Congratulations on the move, Romaine Sawyers.
“Time to get them boots back on and get that ball moving.”
Good move
Sawyers is not fit for Ismael’s style of play, and it is only suitable for him to leave the Hawthorns for now in order to play regularly.
The midfielder featured in 21 games for us last season, with 19 of them coming in the Premier League.
It was certain a summer exit was on the cards after he did not make any of the last three matchday squads, and we reckon he has already played his last match for West Brom with just a year left on his current deal.
While he was brilliant under Slaven Bilic, making 42 Championship appearances as we secured Premier League promotion in 2019-20, Sawyers was part of those who struggled to impress in the Premier League.
With Ismael bringing in midfielders that fit his style of play upon his arrival at the Hawthorns, it became clear that the former Brentford man was not going to be in his plans.
He remains a quality midfielder who has what it takes to shine at Stoke, though, and we will be watching to see how he gets on.
Sawyers will definitely be keen to secure promotion with Michael O’Neill’s side, and he has all our best wishes for the season.
