Jeff Stelling blown away by Alex Mowatt after West Brom win v Blackburn Rovers
Jeff Stelling hailed Alex Mowatt after his early goal set West Brom on their way to a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
The 26-year-old midfielder scored the second goal of his Albion career at Ewood Park after smashing a volley past goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski within a minute of the referee’s whistle.
That was the ex-Barnsley captain’s second successive strike after netting against Sheffield United in midweek.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday [21/08/21] after Albion went four unbeaten under Valerien Ismael, Stelling waxed lyrical about Mowatt as his goal was shown on screen.
“This is what he can do,” Stelling said.
“Blackburn think they’ve escaped – take that!
“An absolutely brilliant strike.”

After Conor Gallagher, Okay Yokuslu and Ainsley Maitland-Niles left West Brom at the end of their respective loan spells in May, Albion fans were left scratching their heads at the midfield options remaining at the club.
Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers endured dismal 2020/21 campaigns and were elbowed out of the starting XI by the aforementioned trio.
Livermore has since forced his way back into the side under Ismael, but Sawyers has been allowed to leave on loan to Stoke City.
There was a clear spot in central midfield waiting to be filled. Mowatt has done that and more so far.
Some tenacious tackles and energetic displays have endeared him to the Baggies faithful, but it’s his goals that could really be a big boost this season, particularly after Matheus Pereira’s departure earlier this summer.
Mowatt scored eight times in the Championship last season under Ismael at Oakwell, and he looks well on the way to beating that total already.
