Journalist stunned by Alex Mowatt goal in West Brom 2-1 win v Blackburn Rovers

Express and Star journalist Luke Hatfield was blown away by Alex Mowatt’s goal as West Brom beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Ewood Park on Saturday.

The 26-year-old scored for a second successive game to down Tony Mowbray’s side in Lancashire.

A one-goal margin flattered the home side as Albion threatened to run rampant.

Writing on his personal Twitter profile, Hatfield was stunned by Mowatt’s first-minute goal.

“Absolutely ludicrous volley from Mowatt into the top corner,” he wrote.

“Out of this world finish.”

Penchant for the spectacular

Mowatt pretty much has it all in the middle of midfield.

Powerful, energetic and with an eye for goal, Mowatt is perfectly suited to Valerien Ismael’s 3-4-3 formation.

He was an instrumental figure for the Frenchman last season as Barnsley stormed into the Championship play-offs, and he already looks like a shrewd deal after arriving at The Hawthorns on a free transfer.

Matheus Pereira has been the man to stun the Albion faithful over the last few years with some sensational skills or beautiful goals, but Mowatt has his own set of unique abilities that have thrilled fans already.

He showed it for Barnsley last season, and he has already set out making his mark at the Albion.

His volley against Blackburn yesterday was an unbelievable show of technique, and more of those will see him become a firm fans favourite.

It’s only four games into the season but we can see Mowatt making a huge impact at Albion this season and making it into the Championship Team of the Season for a second successive campaign.

Early days, but he’s showing all the right signs.
