Kevin Phillips blown away by ‘Carnage’ caused by Darnell Furlong throw-ins at West Brom
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Darnell Furlong’s throw-ins for West Brom cause “chaos” and “carnage” in opposition penalty areas, according to Kevin Phillips.
The 25-year-old right-back had a field day with his long throws against Sheffield United earlier this week when Albion won 4-0 against the Blades at The Hawthorns.

Jack Robinson scored an own goal in the first half on Wednesday after one of Furlong’s throw-ins caused mayhem in the box.
Callum Robinson also netted against his former club in the second half when Blades goalkeeper Michael Verrips struggled to deal with Furlong’s throw.
Phillips is delighted to see West Brom scoring in such a different way, suggesting it reminds him of Rory Delap’s days at Stoke City.
Speaking to West Brom News about Furlong’s throw-ins, the former striker said: “It’s an absolute weapon.
“I have to say the Sheffield United goalkeeper had a nightmare the other night but nevertheless, you could see the chaos and the carnage it caused.
“When you’ve got players who are determined to get in there and get in and around the goalkeeper, it’s a fantastic asset to have.

“We all talk about Rory Delap’s days at Stoke with Peter Crouch and Ryan Shawcross and how many goals they scored.
“It’s just another string to their bow they can use and I have to say, it was very impressive.”
Furlong didn’t just impress with his throw-ins against Sheffield United.
Stats by WhoScored show that the ex-QPR right-back also won three of the five aerial duels he contested for, made one tackle and two interceptions and also made three key passes.
It was a tremendous night for Furlong and we hope he’s able to continue utilising his long throws all season.
In other West Brom news, Albion could still swoop in to sign this Premier League goalscorer on loan this month.
