West Brom forward Callum Morton thrills on loan at Fleetwood Toan on Saturday
Gloucestershire Live journalist Jon Palmer was thrilled by Callum Morton on Saturday after the West Brom forward helped Fleetwood Town win 3-2 against Cheltenham Town.
Morton, 21, spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Lincoln City, scoring three goals in 21 appearances for Michael Appleton’s side, and he was loaned out once again this summer to continue his development.
He started the Cod Army’s first three League One games of the season but he began Saturday on the bench against Cheltenham.

However, he came off the bench in the second half and supplied the assist for Shayden Morris’ 90th-minute winner.
Writing on his personal Twitter profile, Palmer said: “Callum Morton made a huge impact after going on from the bench this afternoon.
“He was so close to joining Cheltenham Town on loan from West Brom before Fleetwood Town captured his signature.”
Last season to impress?
Morton signed a new long-term contract last year to tie him to West Brom until 2024, but he turns 22 in January and time is starting to tick on his Albion career.
There were some supporters who questioned whether he would be handed the chance to impress under Valerien Ismael this season after last season’s Premier League relegation.
However, he was swiftly farmed out on loan for the third season in a row following previous spells at Braintree Town and Lincoln.
With Albion bidding for a Premier League return, Morton may struggle to force his way into the side over the next couple of years.
Even if promotion is not achieved this season, Albion will be gearing up to try again the following year.
Will Morton be up to the level of a high-level Championship team by that time?
The jury is out, but making a big impact as he did for Fleetwood yesterday will go a long way to proving his worth.
