Kevin Phillips reacts with West Brom windfall on the cards from Morgan Rogers

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips is pleased with the news West Brom could receive a financial boost by Morgan Rogers’ potential move from Manchester City to Bournemouth.

The Daily Mail reported last week that the Cherries are in talks over a loan-to-buy deal for the 19-year-old forward, worth £9million.

Bournemouth have cash to burn after selling Arnaut Danjuma to Villarreal for £21.3million and some of that money could trickle Albion’s way.

When Rogers joined Man City from the Baggies in 2019, the Premier League champions agreed a fee worth £8million for the youngster while the Black Country club can also benefit from a sell-on clause.

It remains to be seen how much of a percentage West Brom will get of that potential £9million fee but Phillips is happy that Valerien Ismael’s budget could be boosted by a move.

Speaking to West Brom News, Super Kev said: “It’s common now when clubs sell young players to big clubs, it’s always got a sell-on clause.

It’s common sense and it’s good business.

It’ll be a boost for West Brom and hopefully Ismael will be given that money to go and strengthen his squad.

I hope Rogers goes on to get an opportunity to play football at Bournemouth. Scott Parker plays some fantastic football.

It’s a good bit of business all around for everyone concerned.”

Rogers was someone who the Baggies were really excited about when he rose through the ranks of their academy.

Unfortunately, he was so impressive he was snapped up by Man City before he earned a senior appearance for the West Midlands outfit.

The Halesowen-born attacker spent last season on loan in League One with Michael Appleton’s Lincoln City, scoring six times in 28 appearances.

In other West Brom news, Albion could still swoop in to sign this Premier League goalscorer on loan this month.
