Andy Hinchliffe praises Adam Reach for West Brom v Arsenal

West Brom made 11 changes for their Carabao Cup clash with Arsenal this evening, with COVID-19 causing a crisis.

Valerien Ismael gave chances to his academy players with some of the experienced options that haven’t had the opportunity so far this season.

Adam Reach is one of those after arriving as a free-agent, but his time has been limited to one substitute appearance against Sheffield United.

Speaking during the live coverage of the clash on Sky Sports, Reach caught the eye of Andy Hinchcliffe during the heavy defeat.

“Really clever,” he said.

“They occupy all those Arsenal defenders, slick passes and really Adam Reach on his left-foot, I’m really surprised he’s put that past the post.

“It’s a really clever corner.”

Not enough.

It may have been one moment of clever play from Reach, but in all honestly, he struggled like the rest of the squad.

There won’t be many who question the drive and determination of the squad, but they were miles behind in quality.

That was to be expected given that Mikel Arteta named basically a full-strength side against our academy with spots of experience.

Reach didn’t show enough and we were hoping for him to take his younger teammates by the scruff of the neck and push them forward – it didn’t happen.

Hopefully, we will see more in the weeks and months to come this season, but at this moment, it isn’t happening.
