Kevin Phillips: Trevoh Chalobah signing would be ‘amazing coup’ for West Brom
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Trevoh Chalobah would be a “fantastic signing” for West Brom if they can land the Chelsea midfielder on loan before the transfer deadline, according to Kevin Phillips.
According to The Guardian, the 22-year-old could still be sent out on loan by Thomas Tuchel before the transfer window closes despite an impressive start to the season at Stamford Bridge.
Not only did Chalobah play 120 minutes of Chelsea’s penalty shoot-out win against Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup but he also scored a belter of a goal on his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace.
Chalobah was an unused substitute for Chelsea’s win over Arsenal last week and it seems as though a temporary move away from the London club could still be on the cards.
West Brom have shown an international in the versatile midfielder, who can also play as a centre-back, this summer.
In July, the Express & Star reported that the Baggies had made an offer to sign the Sierra Leone-born England Under-21 international.
Ex-Albion striker Phillips feels that Chalobah would be a superb addition to Valerien Ismael’s squad if the manager can sign him on loan before the transfer window closes next Tuesday.
Speaking to West Brom News, Phillips said: “He’d be a fantastic signing.
“I’ve read Chelsea are giving him a new contract so he’s clearly very highly thought of.
“If he was to go out on loan, I would imagine there’ll be clubs queuing up to sign him after his goal.
“If West Brom could sign him it would be an amazing coup for them in terms of their push for promotion.”
In other West Brom news, Albion are firmly in the running to sign this centre-forward before deadline day.
