TalkSPORT reporters moan about West Brom shirt numbers in loss v Arsenal
TalkSPORT reporters Mark Wilson and Alex Crook weren’t happy with the visibility of the West Brom shirt numbers on Wednesday night.
Valerien Ismael handed a host of youngsters their debuts in the 6-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup, leaving commentators to rely on shirt numbers to name players.
Despite West Brom not sporting their usual blue and white stripes this year and having a solid block of navy blue on their home kit, Wilson still struggled to see the red numbers.

He took to Twitter to say: “West Brom shirt numbers… Every single year.”
After Crook dubbed the shirt numbers a “disgrace”, Wilson added: “Would it be that hard to have the numbers on a white square? Even if only on the playing shirts.”
We can see their point
Ismael’s unrecognisable squad was made more difficult to recognise on Wednesday night because of how difficult it is to make out the names and numbers on the back of Albion’s home kit.
This year, it’s not as bad because of the controversial ‘penguin’ style that’s on the shirt. However, we can get why it’s such a pain for commentators when we usually sport blue and white stripes.
It cannot have been too difficult though, considering none of West Brom’s players really did anything of note and Arsenal had most of the ball.
Either way, calling it a “disgrace” is way over the top. But what would you expect from talkSPORT journalist Crook, who seems to have it in for teams like us.
At the weekend, Crook hit out at Norwich for going “against sporting integrity” for not spending a lot of money in the Premier League and finding themselves going up and down between the top-flight and the Championship.
Why is it the end of the world when a club operates within their means but Manchester City sign Jack Grealish for £100million and try to sign Harry Kane in the same summer for more and no one bats an eyelid?
In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips claims this player would be an “amazing coup” if they sign him on loan before the deadline.
