Joseph Masi: West Brom fan gave Darnell Furlong hoody to aid long throws

West Brom left it late last night to secure a 1-0 victory over Peterborough, with Semi Ajayi emerging as the unlikely hero at the Weston Homes Stadium.

The centre-back’s 94th-minute winner ensured that Valerien Ismael’s men continued their brilliant start to the 2021-22 Championship campaign.

Peterborough matched the Baggies’ intensity and defended well, and not even Darnell Furlong’s long throws could catch them out.

The visitors gave their all, with even the fans helping out, and The Express and Star journalist Joseph Masi was impressed with the gesture of one West Brom supporter.

He posted on his personal Twitter account during the game: “Unbelievable this, an Albion fan in the away end is giving Furlong a hoody so he can dry the ball for his long throws.”

Huge support

West Brom fans want their team back in the Premier League next season, and some will do whatever it takes for it to happen.

Furlong was regularly provided with a towel by fans to dry the ball before his throws during the 4-0 win over Sheffield United, but sacrificing your hoody and warmth just to ensure the goals come by any means necessary speaks volumes.

The Albion supporters love their club and they will give everything it takes to throw their weight behind the players and Ismael.

The defender’s missiles did not wreak havoc this time as they did against Luton Town and Sheffield Utd, but West Brom got all three points at the end against what proved to be a very tough opponent.

They are joint leaders with Fulham after five games and would need to sustain the momentum over the next 41 games.

That is a tough ask, but with fans like the one who made his clothing available for throwing duties last night cheering them on, anything is possible.
