Reading midfielder Josh Laurent reacts to 'nuts' Darnell Furlong face mask in West Brom v Millwall
Reading midfielder Josh Laurent has taken to Twitter to voice his opinion on Darnell Furlong’s new look after West Brom drew 1-1 with Millwall on Saturday.
Furlong, 25, was sporting a protective mask over his eyes and nose during the Championship clash at The Hawthorns yesterday [11/09/21], after breaking his nose against Peterborough United before the recent international break.
Laurent, who played alongside Furlong during their time together in the QPR youth academy, responded to West Brom’s tweet thanking Baggies for their support against Millwall.
After accompanying the tweet with a picture of Furlong wearing his mask, Laurent wrote via his personal Twitter profile: “Nuts.”
He then added a further tweet, saying Furlong had been “rocked”, in reference to the incident that left him requiring face protection.
A facial injury wasn’t about to stop Furlong from featuring against Millwall and attempting his trademark long throw-ins into the away side’s penalty box.
Ultimately, they proved in vain against the Lions as Gary Rowett’s side stood up to the task and repelled his deliveries as Albion failed to add to the three they have already scored this season via that route.
However, while disappointed to only claim a draw at home, Valerien Ismael’s outfit are still unbeaten in the Championship after six games, and yesterday’s result actually sent them to the top after Fulham came unstuck in Blackpool, losing 1-0 to the Seasiders.
Given Ismael had to make do without defenders Matt Clarke and Dara O’Shea through injury, and with new signing Kean Bryan not up to full match fitness, just like Callum Robinson, a draw at this stage of the season is not the worst result in the world.
