Jeff Stelling predicts West Brom v Derby County scoreline
Jeff Stelling predicts West Brom to beat Derby County 2-0 at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night.
Wayne Rooney’s side arrive in the West Midlands without a win in their last four games in all competitions while West Brom were held to a 1-1 draw against Millwall on Saturday.
However, that result still saw Albion go top of the Championship after Fulham lost 1-0 to Blackpool.
Stelling, writing his prediction on the Super 6 app, backs the Baggies to stay first with a 2-0 win.
Ex-Liverpool striker Neil Mellor concurs with a home win, but predicts a 3-0 victory for Valerien Ismael’s side.
Building confidence from the back
West Brom have suffered a few defensive blows in recent weeks with injuries to centre-backs Matt Clarke and Dara O’Shea.
Clarke is unlikely to be seen until October at the earliest while O’Shea has been ruled out for four to six months after suffering an injury on international duty with the Republic of Ireland earlier this month.
Semi Ajayi and Cedric Kipre have been tasked with flanking Kyle Bartley in their absence, but both were far from convincing against Millwall at the weekend.
Albion have recorded two clean sheets so far this season, against Sheffield United [6-0] and Peterborough United [1-0], and will be bidding to make it a third on Tuesday.
They stand a decent chance given the identity of their opponents at The Hawthorns tonight.
No Championship team has scored fewer goals than Derby’s four in the league this season, and they could only muster two shots on target in the Midlands on Friday as they lost 2-0 to Birmingham City.
In other West Brom news, Ismael could unleash this new Albion signing v Derby after Millwall draw pinpoints 23y/o danger.
