Kevin Phillips discusses West Brom fans booing against Derby

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips has defended the West Brom fans who booed players off at half-time in the draw with Derby on Tuesday.

Albion have failed to win their last three matches, drawing at home against Millwall and Derby before their stalemate at Preston on Saturday.

Over the years, there have been plenty of boos at The Hawthorns and some fans were left bemused by the vocal frustration when the Baggies are doing quite well in the Championships.

“I think it’s a testament to the way West Brom have started the season and what they’ve seen,” Phillips told West Brom News.

“I was there at the Sheffield United game and they played really well but you can’t get too carried away.

It’s just the state of the season where West Brom are and they expect them to win all their home games.

Certainly against Millwall and Derby, they’re two teams you’d expect West Brom to win against.

It’s just a natural frustration from the players and the supporters where sometimes you can’t help yourself but boo.

It’s just one of those things when you’re expecting to win matches and the players will have to get used to it.

Whether it’s warranted or not, I understand why the supporters did it.”

West Brom dropped to third in the table after failing to beat Preston on Saturday.

Valerien Ismael’s men have scored just three goals in their last four Championship matches with the lack of a proven goalscorer starting to expose a flaw in Albion’s squad.

In other West Brom news, this Albion player appears to have deleted his social media accounts after being abused online.
