Kenneth Zohore demoted to West Brom U-23s

West Brom striker Kenneth Zohore has been named in the Under-23s starting lineup for today’s clash against Sunderland.

The 27-year-old was expected to leave this summer, but a move away from the Hawthorns failed to materialise.

He has not won over Valerien Ismael’s trust thus far and inclusion in the Premier League 2 squad shows just where he is in the pecking order for the club.

Matt Clarke has made his return to competitive football after suffering a hamstring injury in August.

Time to go for Zohore?

The Baggies signed Zohore for an £8 million fee [Express and Star] in 2019, making him their most expensive non-Premier League signing.

Given the kind of investment that went into that deal, many expected him to be the talisman for the club for years to come.

However, after little over two years, he’s facing the prospect of leaving the club after virtually being frozen out by the manager.

Jordan Hugill’s arrival on loan has put him ahead of the 27-year-old in the pecking order as well.

It’s been a pretty bad business decision by the club and they will be willing to take whatever they get in January as it seems pointless keeping him at the club.

He failed to impress on loan at Millwall last season as well, so it remains to be seen whether Championship clubs will show an interest in him when he’s put up for sale.
