Kevin Phillips shares verdict on Alex Mowatt injury blow for West Brom

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips has insisted that West Brom would be missing one of their best players should Alex Mowatt be ruled out.

The former Barnsley man followed Valerien Ismael to The Hawthorns and has been everpresent before limping off in the defeat at Stoke.

Phillips believes that he has been a major part of the brilliant start to the season after chipping in with some very important goals.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Phillips said, “It is because he’s been everpresent this season and has been one of their best players.

“He’s chipped in with goals so it’s a blow because of the form he was in on a personal note and the side picking up points, he’s been a major part of that.

“It’s an opportunity for someone else to step in and make their cause for a place in the side. Hopefully, the outcome isn’t as bad as first feared and he’s not out for a long time.”

Fingers crossed.

It has been shared that Mowatt has undergone scans on the foot problem this week, and is nervously awaiting the results.

Thankfully for the Baggies, this happened before the international break which has handed them two weeks to rest the midfielder without him missing any games.

As things stand, it looks unlikely that he will be available given the silence around the issue, and given that Ismael admitted Mowatt wouldn’t be replaced unless it was something serious, it looks that way.

Jayson Molumby arriving towards the end of the window now looks like a critical piece of business by the club and now he could get his chance to show us all what he can do.
