Jayson Molumby has tough act to follow if he starts in West Brom v Birmingham – pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Jayson Molumby could make his full West Brom debut on Friday night if Alex Mowatt is unable to start against Birmingham.
Mowatt, 26, has been nursing an injury throughout the international break.
Valerien Ismael has confirmed that the ex-Barnsley midfielder is in contention to play against Blues [Express and Star] but if he fails to make the starting line-up, 22-year-old Molumby may step in.

Kevin Phillips would rather see Mowatt start against Birmingham in the West Midlands derby clash at The Hawthorns on Friday night but he has full faith in Molumby’s ability to step up as he’ll have captain Jake Livermore alongside him in the midfield.
Speaking to West Brom News, Phillips said: “It’ll be tough boots to fill with the way Mowatt’s started. But if he’s unavailable, it’s an opportunity for someone else to step in and play alongside the experienced Livermore, who will help him, guide him. That’s a massive boost.
“If Molumby is playing alongside another player with no experience then I’d be a little bit concern but I don’t see it being a huge issue. But let’s hope Mowatt’s fit.”

Since moving to the Baggies on loan from Brighton in the summer transfer window, Molumby has played just twice.
He came off the bench for the final 10 minutes or so in the win over Cardiff and defeat to Stoke.
In other West Brom news, this Albion star was slammed by a pundit after an international game earlier this week.
