Kevin Phillips reacts to major injury update on Alex Mowatt ahead of West Brom v Birmingham
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips is hopeful Alex Mowatt will be available to start for West Brom when they take on Birmingham City at The Hawthorns on Friday night.
Mowatt, 26, was spotted training with the Albion squad ahead of their upcoming West Midlands derby earlier this week
Speaking ahead of the game, Albion manager Valerien Ismael admitted there were fears Mowatt had suffered a broken foot and would miss several weeks of action [Express and Star].
The ex-Barnsley midfielder should be fit to play Blues as long as he doesn’t suffer a setback between now and kick-off on Friday night.
And Phillips is delighted Mowatt is in contention due to how well he’s performed in blue and white stripes this season.

Speaking to West Brom News, Super Kev said: “I hope [he plays] because he’s been outstanding since signing.
“He’s scored goals, he’s been really influential in the middle of the park with [Jake] Livermore and they’ve struck up a really good partnership.
“It’s an encouraging sign he’s been involved in the training sessions.
“If he has then from my experience, he won’t want to miss a match. Let’s hope he starts the game.”
Mowatt has scored three goals and supplied one assist in 11 Championship appearances for the Baggies since arriving on a free transfer in the summer.
He won the Championship goal of the month award on Friday for his screamer against Cardiff in September.
In other West Brom news, this Albion star was slammed by a pundit after an international game earlier this week.
