Lee Bowyer will be furious with West Brom v Birmingham moment - Don Goodman
Lee Bowyer will be furious with the goal West Brom scored in their 1-0 win against Birmingham on Friday night, according to Don Goodman.
Karlan Grant had The Hawthorns crowd on it’s feet when he scored a second-half winner in the West Midlands derby.
For large periods, it was a tough match to watch as Blues’ defence frustrated an impotent Albion attack.
But Goodman feels the away side could have done a lot better to stop Grant from slotting in his winner from outside of the penalty area.
“Gary Gardner just isn’t prepared. Look at him – that’s way too easy,” Goodman said on Sky Sports Football on Friday night.
“You cannot give him that amount of room.
“It’s one of the very few mistakes Birmingham have made all night. Is it going to be one that they pay for?
“It’s brilliant from Karlan Grant if you’re Lee Bowyer, you might not be too happy with that.”
Cometh the hour, cometh the man
We’ve been waiting to see this version of Grant.
Last season, the ex-Huddersfield striker looked like a very average Championship forward who was well out of his depth in the Premier League.
And in the opening weeks of this season, Grant looked as though he was struggling to operate in Valerien Ismael’s system.
However, Grant now has four goals in his last four Championship appearances for the Albion to help them sit on top of the table.
While Bournemouth may well re-overtake us at the weekend, to see us sitting top at this stage is encouraging – especially when we haven’t been playing too well.
Other than the win over Cardiff, Albion haven’t played well throughout the entire 90 minutes of a match since hammering Sheffield United in mid-August.
It’s good that we’re able to win without playing well but we’d rather things be way more comfortable.
In other West Brom news, this Albion star was slammed by a pundit after an international game earlier this week.
