Steve Madeley shares Valerien Ismael stance on West Brom striker Kenneth Zohore

Kenneth Zohore is unlikely to be handed a West Brom reprieve by Valerien Ismael, according to The Athletic’s Steve Madeley.

The Danish centre-forward, 27, has not played for the senior side since starting the 6-0 League Cup drubbing by Arsenal on August 25.

He has only made two Championship appearances under Ismael, in the first two games of the season against Bournemouth and Luton Town.

More recently, Zohore has been involved with the Under-23 side, and he has not featured in a matchday squad since that defeat against the Gunners.

Jordan Hugill scored his first West Brom goal against Bristol City at the weekend, but with that coming in his 10th appearance, an Albion fan has questioned whether Zohore may be handed another chance by Ismael.

“Never say never, but I think it would take a major injury crisis for Kenneth Zohore to be involved regularly again,” Madeley replied on The Athletic. “I just don’t think he is really Ismael’s cup of tea.”

Cumbersome

Zohore has a few traits that Ismael desires in his centre-forward; he is a strong, physical specimen, but ultimately he is lacking in his application and willingness to work for the team.

That’s one element that Ismael demands from all of his players – they must buy into his philosophy of putting in the hard yards.

It’s not even as if Zohore has made up for that with his technical qualities.

Last season, he scored just twice in the Championship for Millwall in 17 games, and his record for Albion the season before wasn’t much better with three in 17 appearances.

Ultimately, his days at West Brom are numbered – it’s just when the club can shift him.

His contract expires in June 2023 [Transfermarkt], and there is every chance that they may have to wait until then as there seems to be very few suitors for him at the moment.
