Kevin Phillips thrilled by West Brom return of Grady Diangana after injury

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips is thrilled with the West Brom return of Grady Diangana after his injury problems over the last couple of months.

The winger wasn’t deemed fit enough to start against Fulham this afternoon but took a spot on the bench at Craven Cottage.

Phillips insisted that Diangana has that special quality in his game, and will be a real weapon when the Championship schedule starts to get busier in months to come.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Phillips said, “I think at this stage of the season, the fixtures are going to come thick and fast.

“It’s always good to have a full squad available, and when you’re getting back a quality player, he has quality, we all know that.

“If he gets an opportunity, I think it’s just consistency from his point of view. If he gets that, he needs to go in and take it because he knows if he doesn’t, he won’t play.

“It’s a great thing to have one of your best players back fully fit and ready to go.”

Needed?

Looking at our attacking threat this afternoon at Craven Cottage, it is hard to say that the starting three are going to keep their places.

Karlan Grant likely will, but Jordan Hugill and Matt Phillips both had stinkers and offered little flair that was needed so desperately.

Diangana came off the bench alongside Callum Robinson, and it was no surprise to anyone that the previously mentioned two came off.

Phillips is spot on.

Now it is all about consistency, and that is something that Diangana must show to Ismael and prove that he can deliver every single week like we know he can in the Championship.
