Andy Hinchcliffe slams Robert Snodgrass v Fulham

Andy Hinchcliffe wasn’t pleased with the role Robert Snodgrass played in making West Brom concede their second goal against Fulham on Saturday.

The Baggies suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat against their fellow promotion contenders at Craven Cottage.

Snodgrass was to be blamed for the second goal as he failed to deal with the Whites’ high press and in an attempt to find Sam Johnstone in goal, played an inch-perfect pass to Aleksandar Mitrovic who scored just before half time.

Speaking on commentary for Sky Sports, Hinchcliffe said, “This is a disaster from Snodgrass. Five minutes before half time that’s the last thing you want to be doing.”

Shouldn’t have started

Last week, Snodgrass played his first full game in over six months and that was a big deal given his age.

At 34, it’s hard for a midfielder to play week in and week out in a fast-paced league like the Championship.

Marco Silva likes to play a high tempo and pressing game with this Fulham side and Ismael should’ve known that it wasn’t the perfect situation for Snodgrass.

The veteran was unlikely to have as much time on the ball and starting him was a poor decision, to begin with.

However, there are still no excuses for playing the kind of pass that he did and an experienced custodian like him should be knowing that.

It’s the kind of performance the players will want to put behind as soon as possible, but it’s important to learn from it before it sets a bad pattern.
