West Brom have not appealed Darnell Furlong’s red card

West Brom have not appealed the red card Darnell Furlong received in their 3-0 defeat against Fulham, Valerien Ismael has confirmed.

The Baggies defender went into the tackle with the intention of winning the ball, but was deemed to have stopped a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Ahead of the Hull City clash on Wednesday, Ismael was asked whether the club have appealed it, to which he responded in the negative.

Via his personal Twitter account, The Athletic’s Steve Madeley said, “Valerien Ismael has confirmed in his pre-Hull press conference that Albion have not appealed against Darnell Furlong’s red card at Fulham so he will miss tomorrow’s game. He was guarded about who will fill in. Would only say he has ‘options’.”

Move on

The red card was harsh and we felt that looking at the incident in real time, just like the referee.

There is no VAR in the Championship, so he did not have the benefit of a panel of referees looking at it from different angles.

However, he gave a red card and the Baggies lost the game. That sums it up and it’s time to move on with it.

West Brom

It’s good that Ismael did not waste too much time discussing it or even blaming the officials in the aftermath of the defeat.

He knows that even without the red card, the Baggies were second best on the day and deserved to lose the game.

Ismael must focus on getting his side back to winning ways and strengthening them to secure promotion as one of the top two teams.
