West Brom to miss out on huge money for Nathan Ferguson

West Brom have missed out on a massive chunk of money for Nathan Ferguson after a tribunal finally agreed a fee.

The Athletic claim that Crystal Palace will only have to pay £900,000 for the defender, despite initially agreeing on a fee of £8million in January 2020.

However, a knee problem led Palace to renegotiate the deal, and the Professional Football Compensation Committee have produced a ruling in Palace’s favour, and the Baggies can’t appeal the decision.

A nightmare scenario for West Brom.

Given that the Baggies could have secured nearly £10million for Ferguson to receive just under £1million is a disaster from their point of view.

Ferguson was highly rated at the Hawthorns, but since joining the Eagles, he has been injured and hasn’t actually played a game for them yet.

Therefore, you can see why the tribunal decided to lower the fee significantly.

Perhaps if he had played some matches, then the Baggies could have argued that his issue isn’t that bad, but the evidence was heavily against them.

The now 21-year-old could still have a bright future ahead of him, but it is clear that Palace were right to be concerned initially.

However, this will be a blow to Valerien Ismael, who was possibly hoping to spend that money from the Ferguson tribunal on his squad in January, but £900,000 isn’t going to get you much even in the Championship.

So, this is a huge blow for the Baggies both financially and for potentially improving the playing squad.
