West Brom fan has appeal rejected over racist slur

West Brom fan Simon Silwood has had his appeal to leave prison rejected by a judge.

The Athletic claim that the 50-year-old who racially abused Baggies man Romaine Sawyers has had his verdict upheld, and the judge once again condemned the language that he used.

In September, Silwood was found guilty and sentenced to prison for racially abusing Sawyers, and he won’t be getting out before his release time after his appeal was thrown out [Sky Sports].

The correct decision.

The decision to send Silwood to prison for racially abusing Sawyers shows that fans can’t get away with saying racially motivated things anymore, and that is the way it should be.

The comment that Silwood used towards the 30-year-old was particularly horrible, and you have to say that he probably got exactly what he deserved.

This case proves that judges and the legal system won’t tolerate racist abuse, so let us all hope that Silwood and other fans from other clubs learn a lesson.

If they do it and get caught, then they could go to prison, not a slap on the wrist or just a fine, but serious time inside.

The 50-year-old had already been handed a lifetime ban from the Baggies for the slur that he used, and now he must serve his full sentence, which is the right thing and might hopefully stop others from committing the same offence.
