West Brom could be set to cancel Josh Griffiths’ loan

West Brom could be set to cancel Josh Griffiths’ loan at Lincoln City in January, according to a new report.

Lincolnshire Live claim that Imps boss Michael Appleton is preparing for the Baggies to recall the 20-year-old after they refused Lincoln permission to play him in the FA Cup.

They believe that this means the Baggies could look at recalling Griffiths with uncertainty still looking over Sam Johnstone’s future.

Appleton said: “Come that time [the recall deadline in January], we’ll be more than covered in terms of the goalkeeping position.”

West Brom planning for the future.

Now, the fact they barred Griffiths from competing in the FA Cup suggests that they are thinking of recalling him in January.

If he had played for the Imps on Saturday, he would have been cup-tied for the rest of the FA Cup, and if they aren’t planning on recalling him, why would they ban him from playing?

Therefore, it seems as if Griffiths will be back at the Hawthorns in January, and it will be interesting to see what role he plays.

Johnstone’s future is still up in the air, and his contract is set to expire next summer, so the Baggies might decide to cash in.

If they do, then we wouldn’t be surprised to see Griffiths as the reserve goalkeeper for the rest of the season.

So, we will have to see what happens in January, but all signs seem to be pointing towards Griffiths returning to the Baggies.
