Kevin Phillips thrilled with ‘fantastic’ Grady Diangana as West Brom star gets goal v Middlesbrough

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns

Kevin Phillips is thrilled to see Grady Diangana back on the scoresheet for West Brom as the winger got his first goal of the season last week.

Diangana, 23, scored the equaliser for the Albion in their disappointing 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.

However, it wasn’t all negative news at The Hawthorns with Phillips particularly pleased to see Diangana scoring for the first time in the league since last September.

“I’ve said all along that he probably just needs a run in the side to get him back to where we know he can play,” Phillips told West Brom News.

We’ve seen it in glimpses over the past couple of seasons so it’s great to see him back, fully fit and in amongst the goals.

That can only be a huge positive for West Brom moving forward, they just need to keep him fit.

It also creates competition for the other players so it’s fantastic that he’s got on the scoresheet and moving forward, there’s a run of games after the international week and it’s important everyone is top of their game.

It’s brilliant that he’s back on form. I said I’d like to see him back in and he’s come back in a got himself a goal.”

Since impressing on his loan spell with the Baggies, Diangana has struggled to find a good run of form.

In the Premier League, he seemed out of his depth and his injury issues made it a huge struggle for him to get consistent game-time.

And since dropping back into the Championship with Valerien Ismael in charge, the ex-West Ham attacker has found it hard and also had an injury.

But to see him score on Saturday must’ve been a huge boost for the ex-England Under-21 international and hopefully he can find some good form once the international break is over.

In other West Brom news, Phillips is also furious with this Albion transfer news.
