West Brom mailbag: Daniel Farke swoop ruled out amid Valerien Ismael frustration
Every week we’ll be asking West Brom fans on our Facebook account for questions that will be answered by editor Danny Wright. You can join in by following the West Brom News Facebook account and watching out for weekly mailbag posts.
West Brom fans have endured a frustrating time as of late with the race for the top two Championship spots already looking as though it’s been sealed by Bournemouth and Fulham.
After 17 matches, Albion sit third in the Championship table, six points behind second-placed Fulham and only two ahead of Coventry in fourth.
Valerien Ismael’s men have won just three of their last seven matches and fans have had to make do with a very dull style of play in that time.
Tensions have risen at The Hawthorns with sections of fans booing at almost every game as of late and it seems some are starting to turn on Ismael.
For this week’s mailbag, West Brom News editor Danny Wright focuses on a question from a fan who’s asking why the club hasn’t made a move for a new manager and Daniel Farke’s name has come up.
Ismael’s football isn’t easy on the eye and while we were able to put up with that when we were winning games, that’s not the case anymore.
Albion struggled to draw with Middlesbrough and only just beat Hull City in two home matches last week and in all honesty, that’s not good enough.
However, you can forget about Ismael going any time soon with the Frenchman only a few months into a four-year contract at The Hawthorns.
Albion’s transfer business in the summer was made up of loan deals and signing free agents – do you really think they will want to spend millions to pay off Ismael?
Right now, we’re third in the league and that, in my opinion, is a fair representation of the squad that Ismael has.
Fulham and Bournemouth both have squads that are easily better than Albion’s but you’d think that after how well he did at Barnsley last season, Ismael would be able to get that extra bit more out of them to ensure the race for the top-two isn’t over before Christmas.
Ismael’s underperforming and the bones being picked with him are very fair. He’s playing an uninspiring style of football, he’s relying a lot on a bit of individual brilliance to win matches, he’s playing players out of position and his tactical stubbornness is costing us points.
He has to change something at some point but also the players are not blameless in all of this, they are not meeting expectations too.
Farke is a good manager who’s proven he can win promotion from the Championship from his time at Norwich.
And while he would be a superb replacement if Ismael is sacked, that simply isn’t going to happen.
In other West Brom news, this Albion star has been slammed by a pundit over a “hugely important” issue.
