Chris Lepkowski amazed by 'remarkable' double save from Sam Johnstone

West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone earned praise from Chris Lepkowski for a piece of superb goalkeeping in the Baggies’ clash against Blackpool.

The England international made a stunning double save just before halftime at Bloomfield Road, to first deny Gary Madine and then Keshi Anderson.

It ensured that the Baggies went into the break still level, having spurned several chances of their own earlier in the half.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, former Birmingham Mail journalist Lepkowski was in awe of Johnstone but was not happy with those in front of the goalkeeper.

He said: “Remarkable goalkeeping by Johnstone. Defending horrific though.”

A move on the cards

Johnstone’s excellent double save is just the latest example of his ability between the sticks.

It was a surprise to see the 28-year-old stay at the Hawthorns in the summer as he is certainly a Premier League quality goalkeeper.

Express and Star journalist Luke Hatfield has said he expects a top flight club to make an offer for Johnstone in January, while the Daily Mail have linked him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the last week.

The shot-stopper will certainly be keen to get back into the Premier League quickly to keep his place in the England squad, but with West Brom losing ground on the automatic promotion spots, he will surely seek a move away.

It is therefore a case of enjoying Johnstone while he is still a Baggies player and hoping he pulls off a few more spectacular saves before his departure.

After all, the more he impresses, the more his price tag will rise.
