West Brom interested in transfer for Swansea City forward Jamie Paterson

West Brom could make a move for Swansea City forward Jamie Paterson in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

The 29-year-old moved to South Wales from Bristol City in the summer and after a slow start has notched eight goals and four assists in 20 appearances so far this season.

He only signed a one-year contract at Swansea in August, so could be available for a cut-price fee in the new year.

The Daily Mail, who describe Paterson as a ‘revelation’ in the Championship this season, name West Brom as one of several second tier sides reportedly interested in signing him.

Baggies solution?

It is no secret that West Brom will be in desperate need of added firepower in January as a lack of cutting edge in the final third has been one of their major downfalls this season and they have scored just twice in their last six matches.

Paterson’s tally of eight goals this season is the same as that of Albion top scorer Karlan Grant and five more than anyone else in Valerien Ismael’s squad.

With six months left on his contract in January, the 29-year-old would also not be too expensive which would suit West Brom who have been reluctant to splash the cash of late.

However, it is worth pointing out Paterson is not a centre forward, and has tended to play just behind Joel Piroe this season – the position in which he scored against the Albion earlier in the campaign..

What the Baggies really need is an out and out centre forward to lead the line, with Jordan Hugill’s loan move from Norwich City yet to work out.

Paterson would obviously add quality, but whether he would be the exact answer to West Brom’s problems seems unlikely.
