David Prutton predicts West Brom clash v Coventry City

West Brom have been tipped to lose against Midlands rivals Coventry City in the Championship on Saturday by David Prutton.

The Baggies travel to the Coventry Building Society Arena with just one win and two goals from their last six matches.

Valerien Ismael’s side currently sit fourth in the Championship table, one point ahead of the Sky Blues who are sixth.

In his latest Sky Sports predictions column, Prutton has gone for a 2-1 win for Coventry, suggesting that West Brom’s lack of cutting edge will let them down.

“What Coventry have done so far has been absolutely fantastic,” he said. “They battled to another comeback draw at Bournemouth last week, showing real character again to take advantage of Jefferson Lerma’s red card.

“We’ve discussed this before again and again, but West Brom fans are just at the stage where they want to see a bit more from their side. They are solid at the back but just can’t score goals. I fancy them to get back on the scoresheet on Saturday, but I think it will prove futile.”

Crucial fixture

The pressure will be on Valerien Ismael when his team make the 30-mile trip east on Saturday.

Defeat at the Coventry Building Society Arena, combined with a win for Blackburn Rovers over Preston North End, would see West Brom drop to sixth by the end of the weekend.

Albion have taken just one point from their last five away matches, while no team in the Championship have won more points at home this season than Coventry (23).

After several uninspiring performances, Albion need a big performance against their fellow playoff contenders, but to be honest it is hard to see that happening.

Ismael’s style of play has become stale and opposition teams are finding it too easy to figure West Brom out.

As Prutton highlights, finding the back of the net has proved to be a major issue in recent games, so the likes of Jordan Hugill and Callum Robinson, who have underwhelmed this season, need to finally step up.

In other West Brom news, Steve Madeley has cast doubt over Albion’s chances of signing their priority transfer target.
