West Brom likely to sign a striker based in Britain

West Brom are likely to sign a striker who is currently based in Britain, according to a new report.

The Birmingham Mail claimed on Wednesday that though the Baggies have been linked with various names from around the world, they are likely to stick closer to home and sign a forward based here.

If this is true, Albion fans can forget about the likes of Daryl Dike and Rhys Healey, and the likes of Dwight Gayle and Josh Windass become more likely.

Now, this could prove to be a smart move; someone like Gayle could be ideal [Telegraph].

The 32-year-old had a successful spell with Albion during the 2018/19 season, in which he scored 24 goals across the whole season.

Since then, he has struggled for game time at Newcastle United and only really appeared towards the end of the 2019/20 season for the Toon.

Gayle has a ridiculous goalscoring record in the Championship; he has scored 59 goals in 100 matches, making him one of the division’s best strikers in recent years.

Now, given the fact he is British, you would have to think that Albion are at least considering a move for the forward in January.

He has a contract until 2024 with Newcastle, so a loan until the end of the season could be a good option for the Baggies, Gayle, and Newcastle.

West Brom

If you look at Fulham and Bournemouth, they both have two strikers who have made the Championship look beyond easy.

Karlan Grant is the Baggies’ top goalscorer with nine, and he has performed very well, but given the rate Aleksandr Mitrovic and Dominic Solanke are scoring, that won’t be good enough.

Therefore after this latest update, we suggest that Baggies fans should keep an eye on Gayle.
