West Brom man Reyes Cleary not ready for first-team call-up yet

West Brom starlet Reyes Cleary isn’t ready for a call-up to the first team but he isn’t that far away, according to Joe Chapman.

Writing in the Birmingham Mail, the reporter emphasised the fact the Baggies don’t think he is ready for a role in Valerien Ismael’s side.

However, he believes that the player is “quality” and that Albion must sort out a new contract for him before someone else swoops in.

Chapman said: “It is a big leap.

“I was really taken by his quality of finishing. His first and third goals against Middlesbrough on Monday night were excellent. He can score with his right, his left.

“I think Cleary, who has trained with the first team, can’t be too far away.

“There are always, inevitably with Albion, admiring glances from elsewhere, so there is a decision to be made in terms of selection in the first team, and there’s work to be done off-field in the form of a long-term contract.”

Cleary is not in first-team plans yet.

It seems as if the 17-year-old isn’t in Ismael’s plans as of yet, even though the likes of Taylor Gardner Hickman have made the breakthrough in recent times.

So, you would think that Cleary could be the next one just waiting to be brought through.

However, he is just 17, and there are a lot of differences between youth football and professional football.

However, you could also argue that the quicker the Baggies involve him in the first team, the more likely it is he signs a new deal and the more likely it is that he develops his game.

Ultimately, playing him in the Championship will only improve him rather than leaving him in the youth teams for now.

So, it seems as if the Baggies haven’t made a decision on Cleary’s first-team chances as of yet although, we would be surprised if he were involved before the start of 2022.
