Pundit hears whispers of West Brom bust-up between Snodgrass and Ismael amid January plan

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns

Kevin Phillips has warned West Brom they’ll be taking a “gamble” if they get rid of Robert Snodgrass in January.

On 28 November, Sun journalist Alan Nixon reported that Snodgrass, 34, is free to leave The Hawthorns in January after being frozen out of Valerien Ismael’s plans.

The former Scotland international is the possibly most experienced player in Ismael’s squad and Phillips isn’t sure about letting him move on when there are so many youngsters breaking through at the Black Country club.

“I’ve heard all sorts and there has been a bit of a bust-up,” said Phillips to West Brom News.

If he has been made available then that kind of suggests [there has been] because why would you get rid of an experienced player?

Maybe it’s a case of freeing up some funds to get someone in on a decent wage. Maybe that’s the issue so they can get one or two new players for the wages Snodgrass is on.

Only the manager and the player know what’s going on but from the outside looking in, it looks like there’s been a disagreement.

But when you lose an experienced player in January and you have young players in your squad, it’s a slight gamble.”

Snodgrass has played just 15 times for West Brom since joining them last January.

Seven of those appearances have been for Ismael, who’s seemingly leaving the Scot out of his plans until he’s moved on.

In other West Brom news, Phillips wants Albion to sign this available Arsenal player in January.
