Mick McCarthy blasts West Brom defender Darnell Furlong live on Sky
Mick McCarthy has blasted West Brom defender Darnell Furlong live-on-air during Sky’s broadcast of the 0-0 draw against Barnsley.
The Baggies were taking on Barnsley at Oakwell Stadium in the Championship, where a win would have taken them level on points with second-placed Bournemouth in the automatic promotion places.
West Brom were the better side in the first half as expected having hit the post, had a shot cleared off the line and another big chance missed by Jordan Hugill.

However, it was defender Darnell Furlong who got the brunt of the former Republic of Ireland manager during the half-time analysis of the game with the game locked at 0-0.
Speaking live on Sky Sports Main Event, McCarthy called Furlong’s cross into the box on one occasion “awful” and said it summed up the team right now.
“This is proper Valerien Ismael here, with three strikers in the box,” he said. “But that’s an awful cross, he’s missed them all.”

Sums it up
While West Brom weren’t bad in the first half, it’s that type of delivery that has summed up their season so far.
A team that is struggling to score goals needs good service if they’re going to snap out of it and start finding the back of the net on a regular basis.
Furlong’s delivery isn’t known for being bad, but it also isn’t the most reliable in the team and in a position as important as right wing-back it’s something that needs to improve to help the side have more avenues to unlock their opposition in tight games such as this one.
‘Awful’ may have been a bit harsh from McCarthy, but he’s never been one to hold his tongue and he’s pretty much hit the nail on the head on this occasion.
