Valerien Ismael puts onus on ‘sloppy’ West Brom players after Barnsley stalemate
West Brom lacked the finishing touch as Valerien Ismael addresses West Brom’s problems after 0-0 draw with struggling Barnsley.
Despite dominating the game – at one point enjoying 79% possession – West Brom failed to score against relegation strugglers Barnsley.
This continues a frustrating run of form as the Baggies fight for promotion and manager, Ismael, and has put the onus on his players to score more goals.

“It’s clear, we needed to score goals to win today,” he said after. “It’s like a broken record every week, exactly the same.
“We played well and created the chances we needed, but, at the end of the day, it’s all about the desire – the desire to score the goals – and the players need to take responsibility at some point and not be sloppy in front of goal.
“We know it is difficult; you never know what can happen in such a game. It’s frustrating tonight because we should take the three points.” He said speaking to Sky Sports after the game.
Not good enough?
West Brom have scored only 30 goals in 23 league matches. Enough to find themselves in third place but an area that must be improved on as they fight for automatic promotion.
Ismael branded the team ‘sloppy in front of goal’ with the Albion taking 16 shots but only three of those on target to challenge Barnsley keeper, Collins.
The Baggies struggle for goals is clear with their 30 goals for being the second lowest of those in the top 6, with Stoke sitting on 26.
