West Brom slammed by Chris Lepkowski for ‘poor decisions’ in goalless draw against Barnsley

West Brom have been criticised for making “poor decisions” in attack by Chris Lepkowski following the 0-0 draw against Barnsley on Friday night (17 December).

Only three of Albion’s 16 shots were on target at Oakwell as they played out a disappointing stalemate against the Championship strugglers.

It meant that they missed the chance to go level on points with second-place Bournemouth, who travel to Middlesbrough today (18 December).

Writing on Twitter, former Birmingham Mail journalist Lepkowski fumed at the performance and singled out one player in particular.

“I’ve never seen wba players at this level make so many poor decisions in the final third,” he said. “Week after week too. Tonight amplified that. Hugill should have been hooked much earlier than he was.”

Woeful

It was the same old story for West Brom at Oakwell as it was yet another night where we were left to rue countless missed opportunities.

Cedric Kipre hit the post early on and shot wide in the second half, Karlan Grant and Callum Robinson should both have done better in front of goal and then there’s Jordan Hugill.

The Norwich City loanee had the best chance of the game when the ball was cut back to him by Conor Townsend, but his effort from eight yards out was blocked on the line.

Hugill has started the last two matches but it seems unlikely that Valerien Ismael will continue to persist with a player on such woeful form.

It is no surprise that the Albion boss has admitted that signing a striker in the January transfer window is a matter of urgency.

If they do not bring in more firepower, the team’s ineffectiveness going forward will cost them their promotion bid.
