Ex-West Brom man Dan Asworth hailed a ‘top operator’ by Graham Potter

Former West Brom Sporting Director, Dan Ashworth, has come under tremendous praise amid Newcastle speculation.

His Brighton colleague Graham Potter has hailed Ashworth as a ‘top operator’ as he was given permission by Brighton to enter talks with Newcastle as they hunt for a new director of football.

Since leaving West Brom Ashworth has excelled in his career, now being linked with one of the most highly anticipated jobs in world football.

The truth to these rumours are largely unknown as Potter told the Brighton & Hove Independent: “As I have experienced myself sometimes, things appear in papers which aren’t the truth, it’s just speculation.

“It doesn’t surprise me with Dan because he is a fantastic person. And from my experiences with him, he is a top operator, so we are lucky to have him here.

“And long may that continue. But I can’t speculate on speculation.”

Development

Ashworth left his role at Hawthorns in 2013 for the position at The FA before joining Brighton in 2019. Since his time at the Albion, he has come on leaps and bounds, now being linked to one of the most hotly debated roles in football.

The Baggies could do with some of his magic now as they continue their hunt for players.

Ashworth played a key role in bringing in Brighton’s hugely successful head coach as well as Adam Lallana on a free from Liverpool.

West Brom will be devastated not to have seen the best of Ashworth during his time at the club as he transforms Brighton under a new transfer policy, bringing in young ambitious talents such as Tariq Lamptey.

Maybe something the backroom staff at the Albion can take inspiration from as they look to bolster their ranks. Especially in attack as West Brom’s 30 goals in 23 games is only enough to see them fourth.
