West Brom’s Valerien Ismael says Dara O’Shea could return in just weeks

West Brom could be handed a huge boost with Dara O’Shea set to return to training in the coming weeks.

The centre-back was initially due to be out for between four and six months after breaking his ankle whilst playing for the Republic of Ireland in September.

O’Shea could make an earlier return much to the pleasure of Valerien Ismael who touted the defender a ‘warrior’.

“It looks very good,” Ismael told Birmingham Live. “If everything goes right, he could be back in training in January. Dara will be like a new player for us.

“He looks very good, so hopefully in two or three weeks he can be back in the squad.”

Potential

O’Shea hasn’t looked back since being promoted to the first team in 2019. The 22-year-old is somebody that West Brom hold to great value; a player who was performing before his injury and has an abundance of potential.

West Brom will need all the help they can get as they set their targets on automatic promotion ahead of 2022, something the Dubliner can play a huge part in once he returns to full fitness.

In addition to helping out in defence, O’Shea might be able to help the Baggies with their goal drought. He scored two goals in five games before picking up his long-term injury.

However, it is vital for Ismael to be cautious in integrating O’Shea back into the team – as he most likely will be.

The last thing the Albion need is the Republic of Ireland international to pick up another injury after such exciting news in terms of his return.
