Joe Chapman: West Brom boss Ismael disappointed with Darnell Furlong’s delivery v Derby
West Brom fell to their fifth defeat of the season at Pride Park on Monday, with Derby County running out 1-0 winners thanks to Colin Kazim-Richards.
The Baggies were below par today (27 December), and a moment in the game summed it all it, with Valerien Ismael left shaking his head, according to Birmingham Live journalist Joe Chapman.
Darnell Furlong failed with his delivery during a corner into the Rams box, with goalie Ryan Allsop catching it comfortably, and the Frenchman was far from impressed.

Chapman posted via his personal Twitter account: “Ismael turns away and shakes his head as Furlong’s corner finds the gloves of Allsop.”
Woeful performance
Mick McCarthy singled out the right-back for criticism during the half-time analysis of the Barnsley game after his attempted cross into the box on one occasion could not find a teammate despite the presence of three strikers in the area, and he was at it again today.
Furlong could not create a goalscoring opportunity from the corner, and the fact that he has only assisted twice in 23 Championship games says it all.
West Brom cannot simply rely on him to put in perfect crosses into the box, and he needs to be doing more than his long throws.

Furlong cannot be blamed for the loss against Derby, but he put in yet another underwhelming performance, and he should be doing more against such a weakened opponent.
Taylor Gardner-Hickman replaced him with 14 minutes left on the clock, and the youngster came close to making an impact.
Furlong is not influencing games as he should, and that is not helping West Brom.
Unfortunately, the Baggies do not have a lot of options at full-back right now, and it will be hard for the Frenchman to drop him.
