Rio Ferdinand reacts as West Brom suffer 1-0 loss to Derby County

West Brom suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Derby County at Pride Park on Monday, missing out on the chance to temporarily go second in the Championship table.

Wayne Rooney’s side made it back-to-back wins for the first time since February today (27 December), keeping their slim chances of survival alive, and Rio Ferdinand loved what he saw from the Rams, taking to his personal Twitter account at full-time to react to the result.

The Baggies have now managed to win just two of their last eight games, and that is not doing their promotion chances any good.

Ferdinand said: “Wazzaaaa… big result! Fair play.”

Poor

West Brom were facing a depleted Derby side, but they did not make it count, struggling to create anything tangible in attack.

A defensive mix-up at the back handed the hosts the chance to take the lead, and Valerien Ismael’s men could not find a reply despite their best efforts.

Playing against the rock-bottom team in the division should have come easy for a side tipped for promotion, but the reverse was the case, and the Baggies only have themselves to blame.

They struggled in their goalless draw against Barnsley last time out, and they could not produce the reaction their fans wanted.

West Brom will need to strengthen their attack during the January transfer window, and their return of five goals in the last 10 games speaks volumes.

They are not doing enough to get into the automatic promotion places, and their inconsistencies could end up costing them at the end of 2021-22.

Ismael and his boys need to do much more, and the supporters would not have been pleased with their latest performance.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies have tabled a new contract offer to centre forward.
