West Brom want Lazio striker Vedat Muriqi
West Brom want to sign Lazio striker Vedat Muriqi, and the Serie A outfit have given the green light, according to Alfredo Pedulla.
The Italian journalist reported on his website that the Kosovo international, 27, also cannot wait to leave the club, but he has suitors elsewhere.
However, Lazio are not keen on a loan deal and will only agree to that if an obligation to buy is included in any deal, and whether West Brom are ready for that remains to be seen.
Albion snapped up USA international striker Daryl Dike from Orlando City on New Year day, but it appears that Valerien Ismael still wants to further bolster his striking ranks.
With Jordan Hugill tipped to return to Norwich City after his disaster of a loan spell, the Baggies would need another option up front, and Muriqi fits the bill.
At 6ft 4in, the Lazio man surely has the physique needed to navigate the Championship, and he could find it easy to find the back of the net after his struggles in Italy’s top-flight.
Since joining Lazio from Fenerbahce in 2020, Muriqi has only scored twice and assisted twice in 48 games across all competitions.
However, he ended his last two seasons in Turkey’s top-flight league with 32 league goals, and him hitting the ground running at The Hawthorns cannot be ruled out.
Whether he is open to such a move remains to be seen, though, with some clubs from Turkey keen on bringing him back.
A loan for such a player could work for West Brom, but Lazio are looking at an outright sale or a compulsory buy-clause included in any deal, and that could make striking an agreement for such a move difficult.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies have tabled a new contract offer to centre forward.
