West Brom must sell-to-buy in January - report

West Brom do want to sign Vedat Muriqi this month but they will have to sell-to-buy first, according to Football League World.

The club have scored just 31 goals in 26 games this season in the Championship and currently sit in fifth place after just two wins in 11 games in all competitions.

Manager Valerien Ismael has addressed the goal issue in the side, adding Daryl Dike to the squad this month but he also wants to sign Lazio striker Muriqi.

According to Football League World, however, the Baggies must sell before they buy to balance the books at the club as the Dike deal took out most of the budget for the window.

They state that a deal is ‘not particularly close’ to being done because of the financial situation of the Championship side.

West Brom need goals, and they need goals badly.

They’ve added Dike to the squad and they looked better in the 30 minutes he played during the 1-0 defeat to QPR at the weekend, but even last season when he impressed under Ismael he only managed nine goals in 22 appearances.

Wanting to add Muriqi makes sense, but if a big fee is needed then it’s probably not worthwhile.

There is no guarantee that Muriqi would be the catalyst for an upturn in form and there are other areas that need just as much attention like central midfield and potentially in goal if Sam Johnstone leaves.

The club need to focus on what’s going on on the pitch right now, whether they get the signings in or not. Ismael wanted Dike and he got him, so there are no excuses now.
