David Prutton predicts West Brom vs Peterborough
David Prutton believes West Brom will find it tough, but they’ll eek out a victory against Peterborough this weekend in the Championship.
The Baggies have dropped to fifth place in the league with just two wins from their last 11 games in all competitions, including defeat to QPR last time out.
Valerien Ismael’s side play host to relegation strugglers Peterborough this weekend and while Sky Sports‘ Prutton recognises the problems they currently have scoring goals, he’s backing West Brom to nick a 1-0 win.
“It has been a rough period for West Brom. They just cannot score goals. They are drifting out of the automatic-promotion race and towards falling out of the top six altogether, which would be a disaster.
“Peterborough are in the relegation zone with games in hand on all the sides above them pretty much. But games in hand are worth little when you’re not picking up any points. I think the Baggies will nick this one. Just.”
We’re only a little over the halfway point of the season, but it feels like a real must win game for West Brom and Ismael this weekend.
The poor run of form the club are currently on has seen them slide scarily close to falling out of the playoff places and with Fulham finding a new gear recently, they are threatening to pull away in the promotion race.
Ismael will be hoping that Daryl Dike can inspire some improved attacking displays after his move from Orlando City FC earlier this month, although Sam Johnstone is still suspended.
A win could turn the fortunes of the club around and could be the start of a winning run towards promotion, but defeat could mark the end for Ismael too.
West Brom must win, but also Ismael must win with his job coming under increasing pressure and there is no better opposition they could wish to come up against.
