Aston Villa coach blasts journalist after he shares result of West Brom U15s win
Mark Naylor has blasted a journalist for sharing the scoreline of a Premier League Cup tie between West Brom Under-15s and Aston Villa.
Birmingham Mail reporter Joe Chapman tweeted yesterday [26 January] that Albion had beaten their West Midland rivals 5-0 at Under-15 level.
For some reason, that prompted an angry response to Villa’s academy goalkeeping coach Mark Naylor, who quit the Baggies in 2019 after 19 years at the Black Country club.
Writing via his personal Twitter account in direct response to Chapman’s tweet, Naylor said: “Are you really tweeting scorelines now from academy football?A little embarrassing from a local journalist!
“Maybe concentrate on producing better articles than Schoolboy football.”
Calm down
Naylor has been in youth coaching long enough to know that fans of clubs are interested to know whether their academy sides are doing well.
He should also know that if there’s something that fans will want to read about that involves their club, a journalist is going to publish it.
Schoolboy football is reported on all over the country, whether you like it or not.
No one is criticising the young lads who played for Aston Villa in their defeat to West Brom. If anything, Chapman’s tweet led to congratulatory remarks from West Brom fans who were happy to see their youngsters doing so well.

Of course, there were some jokes about how Albion’s academy was dismantled by an exodus of players and staff going to Villa – Naylor being part of that – but really, was it that harmful of a journalist to simply share a scoreline?
Naylor told Chapman to concentrate on writing better articles instead of sharing the result of West Brom’s Under-15s win.
We’d suggest something that Naylor should obviously concentrate on doing instead of moaning about tweets. We don’t want to stoop to his level though.
In other West Brom news, there’s a new signing on the cards at the Baggies with the club keeping things under wraps for now.
