Ex-West Brom striker hammers Baggies for 1st half display v Preston

West Brom legend Tony Brown was far from pleased with the Baggies in their 2-0 loss against Preston on Wednesday evening.

Valerien Ismael’s side went behind to the Lilywhites four minutes before halftime as Emil Riis Jakobsen bundled home Greg Cunningham’s cross. Cameron Archer doubled the lead in the second half.

Brown, who scored over 200 goals for West Brom in nearly 600 games, wasn’t best pleased when commentating on BBC West Midlands that his former side had offered so little in attack.

“You can see why the home fans are frustrated at half-time,” Brown said.

“Val Ismael has to turn the players around mentally at half-time – there has got to be a massive improvement.

“There has been no potency upfront, no one to play off. There has been no threat at all.”

Same old problems

It’s becoming a bit of a broken record at this point and yet there has been little to nothing in the way of changes to the tactics.

West Brom

West Brom are way off the Championship’s best when it comes to scoring and it is starting to be to the detriment of their promotion push.

They may have the best defence in the division but they haven’t seemingly got the firepower or the ability to unlock it to score freely.

Not conceding doesn’t help a promotion chaser much if there is also no goals going in at the other end.

Daryl Dike’s eight-week injury doesn’t help the matter but this has been a problem long before the American joined the club from Orlando City.

Ismael needs to make some form of change in his tactics if the Baggies are to seriously challenge the automatic promotion places because you cannot go up by scoring this infrequently.

In other West Brom news, it is decision time for the Baggies in regards to this January-linked striker.
